Half Chaps For Every Rider

Half Chaps For Every Rider

Posted by Sarah Crampton on

Hunter/jumper, dressage, eventing, trail and pleasure riders can all benefit from having a pair of Grewal Equestrian's Half Chaps in their tack room. They are convenient, comfortable, practical and affordable. When worn with a matching pair of paddock boots they give the illusion of a custom-fit tall boot.

While riding in an English saddle, half chaps protect the lower leg from the pinch of the English stirrup leather. They also provide grip and support to the lower leg in any saddle while helping to stabilize your leg to achieve that perfect riding position of lining up shoulder, hip and heel. The elastic strap on the bottom goes under your foot, in front of the heel. This strap keeps the half chaps in place, and prevents them from turning or shifting while riding. Wearing your half chaps on a daily basis prolongs the life of your tall show boots, and are easier to get on and off than tall boots.

The combination of half chaps and paddock boots are the perfect choice for beginning riders. They are less expensive than a tall boot and much easier to fit as they often have an elastic insert to adjust to the width of your calf. They are also a good choice for kids who outgrow their boots on a regular basis. As the beginning rider starts to compete at horse shows, half chaps and paddock boots are permitted in most schooling shows and even at some recognized shows.

Many pleasure and trail riders choose half chaps for practical reasons. As many avid trail riders are not interested in horse shows, they have no need for tall boots. Some Grewal Equestrian half chaps are made of waterproof synthetic leather and so riding on the trail in the rain or through water is of no concern. After a long, hot trail ride, it feels great after you dismount to zip them off and cool down. English riders who also ride on the trail don't have to worry about scratching their expensive tall boots as they ride through the brush in their half chaps.

Professional riders and trainers also appreciate the benefits of half chaps. They are often the choice of professionals for daily schooling and training for their convenience and practicality. After riding horses in training, you can remove the half chaps easily and continue with the rest of your day teaching and grooming in your paddock boots. It's not very comfortable walking around in tall boots all day, and the paddock boot gives your foot protection around horses at the barn.

All equestrians, after riding and grooming their horse, continue their day with other activities, or may need to stop at a store on the way home. Paddock boots are fashionable enough for everyday errands while you leave your half chaps in your tack box to enjoy the next day's ride.
